KTTI's Japanese language course in Dhaka teaches Japanese from complete beginner level up to JLPT N3, including JLPT N5, JLPT N4 and JFT Basic (A1 to A2). It is made for people going to Japan on a student visa or an SSW visa. You can study as a residential learner (BDT 25,000 per month), a non-residential learner (BDT 8,000 per month) or online (BDT 2,000 per month). Every learner gets weekly mock tests, and you can learn from Bangladeshi teachers, Japanese teachers, or both.
1. Why You Need Japanese to Go to Japan
Japanese language ability is the first step for every path to Japan. Without it, you cannot go on a student visa or an SSW (Specified Skilled Worker) visa. Schools ask for it, employers ask for it, and visa interviews are held in Japanese.
Japanese is also what you use every day after you arrive: at work, in class, in shops and on trains. Learners who study well in Bangladesh settle in faster, make fewer mistakes at work and can take up a part-time job sooner.
KTTI is the training institute of Kawaii Group, a Bangladesh-Japan joint group with offices in both countries. We teach the language first, then train you for your own visa path.
2. Which Level Do You Need? (Quick Guide)
| Your goal | Level to aim for | Test |
|---|---|---|
| Study in Japan (student visa) | Basic Japanese. Many schools ask for around 150 hours of study or N5 level. | JLPT N5 (or similar) |
| Work in Japan (SSW visa) | A2 level Japanese, usually, plus a skills test for your sector | JFT Basic or JLPT N4 |
| Better schools, jobs, easier life | Intermediate Japanese | JLPT N3 |
| I know nothing about Japanese | Start from zero | JLPT N5 or JFT A1 |
Requirements differ by school, employer and visa rules, and rules can change. Our admission team will confirm what you need for your case.
3. JLPT N5, N4, N3 and JFT Basic Explained
KTTI teaches the levels below. In residential batches we teach SSW Japanese, JFT Basic and JLPT. Non-residential classes cover JLPT N5 to N3 and JFT A1 to A2.
JLPT N5: The First Level
The JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) has five levels, from N5 (basic) to N1 (advanced). It is run by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services, and is usually held twice a year, in July and December. At N5 you can understand simple Japanese used in daily life.
JLPT N4: Accepted for SSW
N4 builds on N5. You can understand basic Japanese used in daily life and simple work situations. For the SSW visa, candidates usually need JLPT N4 or JFT Basic, together with a skills test for their sector.
JLPT N3: Intermediate Level
N3 is the bridge between basic and advanced Japanese. You can follow everyday Japanese at a more natural speed. It is useful if you want a better school, a better job, or an easier life in Japan. N3 classes run in our non-residential course. A common estimate is around 450 hours of study in total.
JFT Basic (A1 to A2): The Everyday Test
JFT Basic is the Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese. It checks everyday Japanese at A2 level, and it is accepted for the SSW visa. It is computer-based and held several times a year. Learners usually need 200 out of 250 points to pass.
A1 and A2 are the first two steps of the Japan Foundation language scale. A1 is the very first step: greetings, numbers and simple sentences. A2 is the next step: handling everyday situations. At KTTI you start at A1 if you are a beginner, and train until you can pass the A2-level JFT Basic.
4. JLPT or JFT Basic: Which One?
| Feature | JLPT N4 | JFT Basic (A2) |
|---|---|---|
| Accepted for SSW | Yes | Yes |
| Test dates | Usually twice a year (Jul, Dec) | Computer-based, several times a year |
| Focus | Grammar, vocab, reading, listening | Everyday Japanese for work and life |
| Good for | Classic exam certificate, good for study | Job seekers wanting a quicker test date |
Pro Tip: Many learners prepare for both because the content overlaps. If you are not sure, ask our team. We will look at your goal and timeline and suggest one.

6. Class Time, Batches and Fees
| Mode | Class time & Batch | Fee | Levels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential | Morning batches. New batch every 6 to 8 weeks. (30 per batch) | BDT 25,000 / month | SSW Japanese, JFT Basic, JLPT |
| Non-residential | Morning, midday, evening and weekend batches. (25 per batch) | BDT 8,000 / month | JLPT N5 to N3, JFT A1 to A2 |
| Online | Live interactive night classes, plus recorded classes. Rolling admission. | BDT 2,000 / month | Japanese classes from online academy |
Which Mode Is Right For You?
Residential: Choose this if you live outside Dhaka. Stay at KTTI, meals arranged, focus only on study. Best for SSW candidates wanting fast progress.
Non-residential: Choose this if you live in or near Dhaka. Attend class and go home.
Online: Choose this if you cannot travel, or want a low-cost start with live night classes.
7. How Long Does It Take?
| Level | Estimated Total Hours |
|---|---|
| JLPT N5 or JFT A1-A2 | ~ 150 hours |
| JLPT N4 | ~ 300 hours |
| JLPT N3 | ~ 450 hours |
Learners in a full-time residential batch usually move faster than part-time learners. After your first two or three weekly mock tests, your teacher will tell you your pace and a realistic exam date.
8. Tips to Learn Japanese
- Learn hiragana and katakana first. Practise them every day for the first two weeks.
- Study a little every day. Thirty minutes daily is better than five hours once a week.
- Listen to Japanese daily: short dialogues, news for learners, or class recordings.
- Speak out loud. Repeat sentences after your teacher and practise self-introduction.
- Learn kanji with words, not alone.
- Review your weekly mock test mistakes. This is the fastest way to improve.
- Learn about Japanese culture and manners at the same time as the language.
